Field of the invention
The present invention relates to an electric knife, that is to say a knife for which a blade is operated by an electric motor in order to assist the operator in his cutting operation.
The present invention applies in particular to knives of the cutter type with a replaceable blade.
Technological background
An electric knife of the cutter type is known from documents US2006 / 053631 A1 and US2010 / 199501 A1.
Document US2006 / 053631 A1 describes a knife with a sawtooth blade which moves back and forth along a longitudinal axis of the knife under the action of a pinion and worm device.
US2010 / 199501 A1 describes a blade knife with a straight wire which moves back and forth along a longitudinal axis of the knife under the action of an annular ring device angularly offset from a motor axis and forming a cam track for a fork provided with an axial blade operating rod.
These embodiments are based on an axial back and forth operating principle which is not satisfactory when it is desired to carry out cutting operations in which the blade wire is inclined at an angle of less than 90 ° relative to the surface to be cut such as for cutting cardboard.
Brief description of the invention
The subject of the present invention is the production of an electric knife better suited to cutting operations where the blade is inclined at an acute angle, for example between 20 ° and 70 °, relative to the element to be cut.
To do this, the present invention provides an electric knife, comprising a knife body, forming a handle housing an electric motor, and a blade holder, received in the handle, carrying a blade and operated by the motor through a device for transforming rotary movement of the motor into alternating movement of the blade holder; the knife body having a fixed axis perpendicular to the blade, on which the blade holder is mounted and which is positioned so that the blade holder is moved in rotation and back and forth around said fixed axis by said motor and prints at the blade an oscillating movement.
In the present invention the blade oscillates or vibrates in a transverse direction unlike the prior art where the blade moves parallel to itself like a saw.
Advantageously, the blade holder can be mounted around the fixed axis by means of a bearing or a bearing.
The blade holder comprising a rear end on the handle side and a front end of which protrudes from the blade, the movement transformation device advantageously comprises a rod connected to an output shaft of the motor, offset relative to and parallel to the output shaft and adapted to oscillate the blade holder around the fixed axis.
Preferably, the rod set in motion by the output shaft acts alternately on transverse stops of the blade holder to maneuver the rear end of the blade holder back and forth in a direction perpendicular to the edge of the blade and in the plane of the blade.
The rod advantageously acts on the transverse stops of the blade holder by means of a bearing centered on the rod and whose outer cage is positioned between said stops to impart to the blade holder a continuous sinusoidal oscillating movement during the rotation of the shaft engine.
The rod may in particular be constituted by a stud mounted eccentrically on a disc axially fixed on the motor shaft and centered on the motor shaft.
According to a particular embodiment, the disc is housed in a bearing whose external cage is received in a frame.
The frame can in particular be fixed to the engine and as an extension of the engine.
An advantageous point of the invention is that the fixed axis opposes a longitudinal movement of the blade holder relative to the handle.
The knife body can in particular house a rechargeable battery supplying the motor.
The motor is advantageously controlled by an on / off switch on the knife body, the switch being able in particular to be a push-button with return spring cutting the released push-button motor such as a fugitive push-button.

Detailed description of embodiments of the invention
An electric knife produced according to the invention is shown in Figure 1 disassembled.
It comprises a knife body 1 in the shape of a handle, provided with a longitudinal axis and a transverse axis. In the body of the knife is arranged an electric motor 2, for example a DC type motor provided with a rotary output shaft, a battery 14 for supplying the motor, an electronic card 16 for controlling the motor and a switch 15 to start and stop the engine. At the front of the knife body is mounted a pivoting guard 101 to hide the blade when the knife is not in use.
The knife has a blade holder 3, received in the handle and carrying a blade 4. The blade holder has a rear end on the handle side and a front end which extends beyond the blade.
A movement transformation device 5 which will be described later connects the motor and the blade holder.
According to the exploded view of FIG. 2, the blade holder is mounted in the body 1 by means of a bearing 7. The blade holder 3 has an axis 61 approximately centered on the blade holder on which the inner cage of the bearing 7. A screw 6 tightens said inner cage and materializes an axis of rotation of the blade holder.
The outer cage of the bearing 7 is received in the body 1 and, according to this construction, the blade pivots relative to the body of the knife about the axis materialized by the screw 6 in the center of the bearing 7. A housing 132 for receiving the bearing 7 in the body 1 is shown diagrammatically in FIG. 3. The axis 6 around which the blade holder pivots is perpendicular to the blade.
Returning to FIG. 2 and in order to allow the blade holder to rotate back and forth around said fixed axis and to impart to the blade an oscillating movement, a device 5 for transforming the continuous rotary movement of the motor into rotary alternating movement of the blade holder is realised.
The movement transformation device 5 comprises a rod 8 connected to the motor output shaft 9 by a sleeve 8 'and eccentric with respect to this shaft. The rod extends along an axis parallel to the axis of the output shaft and makes a circular movement around the axis of the output shaft 9.
The rod 8, set in motion by the output shaft acts alternately on transverse stops 31a, 31b at the rear end of the blade holder 3 by means of a bearing 10.
The transverse stops form a fork around the external cage 10a of the bearing 10. The internal cage of the bearing 10 is centered on the rod, the external cage 10a is positioned between the stops 31a, 31b to impart to the blade holder an oscillating movement during the rotation of the motor output shaft 9. Alternatively, the rod could act directly on the stops or the blade holder could include an off-center cam path in which the rod moves.
The rotary displacement of the rod parallel to itself makes it possible to maneuver the rear end of the blade holder back and forth in a direction perpendicular to the wire of the blade and in the plane of the blade.
Motor side, the rod 8 is integral with a disc 11 extended opposite the rod by the sleeve 8 'fixed on the motor shaft 9 and centered on the motor shaft. The realization of the rod in the form of a crank is also possible in the context of the invention
In a non-compulsory but advantageous way to avoid vibrations and correctly guide the rod, the sleeve 8 'is received in the internal cage of bearings 12, 12' whose external cage is embedded in a housing of an annular frame 13, on the on the other side of the frame.
The annular frame is itself received in a groove 131 in the body of the knife 1. In the example, the frame is fixed to the motor 2 and in extension of the motor which has the advantage of being compact and robust but the frame 13 could also be fixed to the body of the knife in the groove.
An important point of the device is that the fixed axis 6 is opposed to a longitudinal movement of the blade holder 3 relative to the handle during the operation of the knife.
The motor is controlled by an on-off switch 15 on the knife body. This switch can in particular be a push-button with a return spring cutting the released push-button motor, which is a safety measure according to which the motor does not start unless the operator presses the button and stops as soon as the operator release the button.
A battery charge connector or a removable battery in a hatch housing can be provided.
The mounting of the blade on the blade holder is done according to known techniques but, owing to the fact that the blade undergoes vibrations and an oscillating movement, the blade is here held on the blade holder by a screw 17 which is screwed into a thread 18 of the blade holder as shown in figure 3.
This figure also makes it possible to represent the blade holder blade assembly, drive device and motor which are shown from above, which makes it possible to view the position of the bearing 10 relative to the stop 31a. The positioning of the bearing 7 which is fixed on the baluster 61 by means of the fixing screw 6.
To fix the ideas, the motor can have a power of the order of 170 watts a rotation speed between 18000 and 20000 revolutions per minute which creates oscillations of the blade with a frequency of 1.5 to 2m / s. The device is sized to have a blade clearance of 2 to 3 mm.
Figure 4 shows another angle of the knife of Figure 1 disassembled.
This figure represents the two half shells 1a, 1b in which the battery 14 is positioned, which is inserted from the rear of the knife body, the motor 2, the mechanism for moving the blade and the blade holder. This figure shows more precisely the guard device 101 with its return spring
102 and its locking device 103.
The invention defined by the claims is not limited to Example 15 shown and in particular the body of the knife can for example be straight or curved.

1 - Electric knife, comprising a knife body (1), forming a handle housing an electric motor (2), and a blade holder (3), received in the handle, carrying a blade (4) and maneuvered by the motor through a device (5) for transforming the rotary movement of the motor into reciprocating movement of the blade holder; characterized in that the knife body has a fixed axis (6) perpendicular to the blade, on which the blade holder is mounted and which is positioned so that the blade holder is moved in rotation and back and forth around said axis fixed by said motor to impart to the blade an oscillating movement.

2 - Electric knife according to claim 1, for which the blade holder (3) is mounted around the fixed axis (6) by means of a bearing or a bearing (7).

3 - Electric knife according to claim 1 or 2, for which the blade holder (3) has a rear end (3a) on the handle side and a front end (3b) of which protrudes from the blade, the device (5) for transforming movement comprises a rod (8) connected to a motor output shaft (9), eccentric with respect to and parallel to the output shaft, and for which the rod (8) set in motion by the output shaft acts alternately on transverse stops (31a, 31b) of the blade holder for maneuvering the rear end of the blade holder back and forth in a direction perpendicular to the edge of the blade and in the plane of the blade.

4 - Electric knife according to claim 3, for which the rod (8) acts on the transverse stops (31a, 31b) of the blade holder by means of a bearing (10) centered on the rod and whose external cage ( 10a) is positioned between said stops (31a, 31b) to impart to the blade holder a continuous sinusoidal oscillating movement during the rotation of the motor shaft (9).
